In the News :
American Airlines is proudly showing off its new 777 jets on a tour around the country, and the big news is the first class cabin. Their 777, designed for international service, features the first full 180 degree reclining "sleeper-bed" first class seat offered by a U.S. airline. On May 1st 1999, American starts flying the 777 on their Seattle-Tokyo flight.
American is upping the onboard entertainment ante again. This week (Aug 31st 1999) American Airlines will be the first carrier to offer in-flight personal DVD video players. The players will be introduced on September 1st on AA's flights between Miami and Buenos Aires in the First Class cabin. In a few weeks, they will also be onboard AA's flights to Europe.
Travelers love the new fully reclining sleeper seats in first class on American Airlines' 777s so much, that the airline has announced they will reconfigure all of their international 767s as well with the lie-flat beds. All transatlantic 767's should have the new seats by next summer (2000), with the South American fleet following soon after.
